The UAAP Cheerdance Competition is one of the most awaited events of the UAAP Season. It is known to be a highly entertaining event to watch as it showcases routines with death defying stunts and high energy dances. On its 23rd edition, the DLSU Animo Squad’s cheerdance drought continued as the team still wasn’t able to acquire a podium finish, finishing just above ADMU Blue Babble Battalion.
Skill and creativity are the two main factors that the judges observe in determining the place a team finishes in. Skill is certainly necessary for any team to be a contender as it sets the bar for the stunts, pyramids, and dances a team is capable of. On the other hand, creativity plays a part by making the routine unique and able to stand out among the rest. This season, new champions were crowned as the Adamson Pep Squad performed a high level routine that took us back to the 80s.
The skill level of the Animo Squad could not match the other teams’ but the squad’s creativity proved otherwise. Despite falling short of a podium finish, the Animo Squad definitely caught the attention of many, opening the door for future opportunities. After acquiring the attention of Japan Home Center, the Animo Squad has announced that they’ll be back next year with another Japanese themed routine as they will now serve as the company’s endorsers.
On the endorsement
Japan Home Center has been growing in the Philippines since 2004 but hasn’t been having that much publicity. After seeing the Animo Squad’s performance, the company’s president was inspired by their use of the Japanese theme and contacted head coach Ramon Pagaduan, with who he has been long time friends with and asked Pagaduan if his team could endorse some of the company’s products within a one-year contract which would be effective immediately.
In return, the DLSU Animo Squad will be receiving a year’s worth of Japan Home Center products, discounts, and freebies. The company will also be sponsoring them throughout the remainder of the school year and in Season 81 as well.
When asked about the reason behind the acceptance of the endorsement, Pagaduan said that the company’s president was his best friend back in high school so I keep in touch with him a lot. “He saw how creative we were with the theme at na-inspire siya so tinanong nya kami kung pwede ba kami mag-endorse for publicity purposes. I said yes naman,” he expounded.
As for the benefits that the team would receive, Pagaduan said that not only would Japan Home receives publicity and exposure but the team too would receive that as well. He says that cheerleading is a huge market in the Philippines so the deals that they have agreed upon would be useful for the future projects of the Animo Squad.
This endorsement could be what propels the Animo Squad to greater heights. When asked if the team could win it all next year, Pagaduan could only say, “JapAnimo!”
