Effective May 1, 2013, SM retail magnate Henry Sy, Sr. will replace Jose T. Pardo as Chairman of the DLSU Board of Trustees (BOT).

“As we begin to roll out our revised organizational structure, the expertise and vision of Henry Sy is precisely what we need to move forward. His experience in retail and the substantial amount of endowments granted to the University are some of the factors that we considered in appointing him,” explains Pardo.

While Pardo and the incumbent board members’ terms have not ended yet, Pardo explains that the BOT saw it fit to appoint Sy as Chairman in recognition of his recent contributions to the University’s development.

In addition to Sy’s appointment, the University is set to tie up with the SM Foundation in offering more scholarships to underprivileged high school students. A long-term construction deal with the SM Development Corporation (SMDC) is also in the works.

Sy will be serving as Chairman for at least three years, the standard length of a trustee’s term.

The BOT serves as the chief policymaking body in DLSU. Its members consist of the De La Salle Brothers, prominent alumni of the University, and other important stakeholders.
