After a successfully nabbing the throne in the Mineski DotA Tournament last year, the DLSU Green Archers calls it a day as co-captain Joshua Webb leaves the squad. Despite a promising run last season, the Archers has to prematurely end its DOTA run as Coach Gee also wants the team to focus on strengthening its play on the court, and not on the screen.

Losing key members
One of the primary reasons for their withdrawal from the said tournament was the departure of their top guns Webb and former Archer Sam Marata.

With the two manning the helm for the Green Archers in the middle, the other players think that it will be hard for them to push for another championship this year.

“Pag wala sila, hirap kami, sila kasi yung middle defense namin, pag middle kasi nawala mahirap na manalo,” shares teammate Mac Tallo.

“Babalik siguro kami next year, rebuild muna this year para makuha ulit ‘yung championship. Saka focus din muna sa UAAP,” hopes co-captain Yutien Andrada.

Last year’s lineup was Marata, Webb and Norbert Torres in the middle while Andrada and Tallo manned the top and bottom parts or the map. At first, the squad considered defending the title with Jeron Teng and Thomas Torres replacing the void left by Webb and Marata.

“At first we wanted Jeron and Thomas but it didn’t work out for us. We also don’t want them to join just for the sake of joining; for now, we’ll just look forward to the UAAP,” said Norbert.

As for Coach Gee Abanilla, he sees DOTA as a good tool to reinforce his squad’s teamwork, but for this year he wants them to take a break and focus on the more rigid training they are forgetting to attend.

“I want them to focus first, maybe after our season they could train again and go back to pouring their effort on securing their championship form in DOTA next year,” concludes Coach Abanilla.
