After trying life as a La Salle Brother in a vlog, vlogger-turned-brother Russco Jarvina FSC appears to have committed to the bit beyond reasonable expectations. What began as campus content has since led to his reported appointment as the next DLSU President, according to very unreliable sources.
The Office of Mission, Vlogs, and Strategic Discernment told The LuhSallian that Br. Jarvina’s transition followed months of reflection after his immersion. The episode was initially pitched as a one-off feature on religious life for curious students, but life became more complicated for the vlogger when it stopped feeling like content and more like a new life.
From vlog to vocation
Br. Russco Jarvina FSC first rose to online fame through his viral “Day in the Life of a College Student in DLSU” TikTok vlogs, a lifestyle series that followed his academic life and side quests as an undergraduate student.
His content later took a more unexpected turn after viewers noticed the frequent appearance of Br. Richie Yap FSC, in several “A Day in My Life” episodes. What started as casual cameos apparently became a full series documenting what Br. Jarvina described it as “a soft launch of the Brother lifestyle.”
The collaboration eventually led to a full YouTube feature with the La Salle Brothers, showcasing a day in their lives at DLSU, an initiative that took place after Br. Jarvina’s graduation. After consistently practicing the way of life of Brothers through faith, zeal for service, and communion in mission in his daily vlogs, Br. Jarvina revealed that his content had slowly shifted from a series to a calling, leaving us with a new twist on his famous line “sometimes a day in a life can turn into the rest of your life.” According to him, there was “a certain peace in being a Brother,” a realization he reportedly came to after filming his third consecutive 5:30 am prayer segment.
A new perspective for the University
Br. Jarvina affirmed that his administration would be anchored in “the real Lasallian experience,” which includes both formation and the everyday realities of campus life.
Among the initiatives he floated was the “Tambay with Purpose Initiative,” which would reframe staying on benches, in hallways, and Andrew ledges as a valid space for reflection, community-building, and delaying one’s trip home with intention.
Also under review is the “Conyo Communication Desk,” which would translate key University announcements into a language more quickly understood by the student body. Brother Jarvina even gave an example of how this might look: “Yo, Lasallians! DLSU is like so flexing in the 2026 QS Rankings. Philosophy’s in the top 200, and we’re also number one in Business, Education, and a few more pa! Big congrats to our super galing na faculty, students, and alumni! Animo La Salle, also like, don’t forget to check your grades, ha!”
He said this style would make announcements easier for students to digest.
My face when Russco becomes the University president
The Lasallian community was surprised to hear about the appointment of Br. Jarvina. “It’s definitely something to look forward to,” said a student from the College of Liberal Arts. “It’s exciting to see what a Gen Z University president can bring to the table.”
Others were concerned about Br. Jarvina’s experience, or lack thereof, seeing as Br. Jarvina has no formal theological education. “I fear that the University will lose sight of its core values,” a Lasallian alumnus told The LuhSallian. “I hope Brother Russco keeps in mind that we are a Catholic institution, not a vlogging institution.”
Amid these concerns, Lasallian brothers provided reassurance to the Lasallian community. “He will not be working alone. Though he steers the ship, the Lasallian brotherhood is here to guide him as he guides us to the future led by the youth,” Brother Richie Yap explained. “After all, communion in mission is among our core values as Lasallians.”
In the end, everyone hopes Br. Russco will be able to share his youthful wisdom with us as we cultivate the real day in the life of a Lasallian.
